Why the name Poison Oak Designs? Poison Oak is a beautiful plant and it keeps people away! Check out the page Poison Oak Facts for more cool info on Poison Oak. I came up with the name hiding out in some caves and eating acorns in the Sierra Nevada mountains. Like Poison Oak, I want people to stay away from me too! And so I focus on online business, like this. Thank you for making it possible for me to avoid people!
This is an operation by me, Jacob, who started 3D printing in 2018. I’ve always had an affinity for outdoors, design, photography, and art work. When the pandemic got intense in 2020, during my isolation, I made several nightlights and Christmas ornaments to give and sell to family friends. While isolating, I eventually designed a 3D printer in 2022 (check it out at HomeGrown3d.com). After getting invited to a Covid Cautious crafts fair in 2023, I designed an Aranet4 CO2 monitor case and a few more nightlights.
Now it’s time to get started again and make this project into a business! Look for more lighting accessories (lamps, light switch panel covers,) planters, photography (I have a photo printer that can do up to 13×19 prints), picture frames and more! I am doing some amazing stuff with 3D printed materials that are 30% wood shavings and 70% cornstarch. These materials take wood stains quite well, and there are so many possibilities! I also primarily use the materials PLA+ (Cornstarch with additives) and TPU (flexible material that is incredibly durable). I sort and save all my scraps and do my best to make this a zero waste operation, where I plan to do low batch injection molding with the scraps in the future. This is definitely not a zero waste operation, but I am mindful to minimize my impact on the world and make it a better place for everyone and everything!
